Microsoft plans to abandon C/C++ by 2030. The project of massive code rewriting became known from a job posting where they are looking for employees for it. The goal is ambitious — a million lines of ported code per person per month, which would be impossible without the use of AI (and even with AI, there are doubts). Rust will serve as a replacement, which is successfully used in the company. Several components of Windows have already been rewritten to it, and it is also used in Azure. Good luck to them, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this massive code rewriting experiment. However, looking at Microsoft's 'successes' in the AI field and the quality of their software lately, doubts arise about the project's prospects.
