OpenAI announced GPT 5.6 It comes in three variants: Sol, Terra, and Luna. Sol is the new flagship, Terra is roughly at the level of GPT 5.5, and Luna is slightly worse than 5.4. Sol costs $5/$30 per million tokens, Terra $2.5/$15, and Luna $1/$6. Token caching is now paid, making such prompts 25% more expensive, while the discount on cached tokens remains at 90%. The most impressive detail of these models is that GPT 5.6 Sol will be launched on Cerebras next month, at a speed of 750 tokens per second. Terra and Luna are also hoped to be seen there, but nothing is said about them yet, nor about their pricing. The model is available only to a limited number of partners in the USA, while OpenAI negotiates with the government. General availability is promised in a few weeks.
