It turns out Google Vids has its own AI avatars. Unlike HeyGen and others, they are based on Veo 3.1, with a maximum clip length of 30 seconds and subsequent lip-syncing. The pipeline is a bit strange. Firstly, where does the 30 seconds come from, Video extend? Secondly, why lip-sync? Veo seems to generate synchronized audio quite well on its own. Or is this a workaround to match the voice? Surprisingly, this hodgepodge of add-ons and workarounds doesn't look too bad. However, there is no option to create a custom avatar — the set is limited to 12 characters. Moreover, only English is supported. Overall, Google Labs' experiments seem more ready for production than the innovations in Google Vids. By the way, they allow 20 generations per week.
