I have already written about Manus in a review of presentation generators. But besides that, Manus is quite a powerful agent. It manages the browser and conducts deep research.
And here’s the news: Meta is buying them for $2 billion.
This is a logical move. Llama currently lacks a proper user interface, and Zuckerberg is focused on products. Meanwhile, ChatGPT and Gemini have long acquired features like presentation generation and file editing, while Llama remained just a bare model. The furthest ahead is, of course, GPT 5 with its advanced tool-use.
The acquisition of Manus is a quick way for Meta to catch up and possibly surpass competitors in the product race. And, importantly for investors, it is already making money—over $100 million a year.
Meta promises that Manus will operate independently, but its agents will be integrated into Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
There is, however, one nuance: the Chinese roots of the founders. But Meta has already stated that after the deal, Manus will have no ties to China. There, it will completely cease its operations.
Beautiful! And we can only congratulate the founders.
