Empowering Australia's AI future sustainably
Firmus Technologies is a leader in energy-efficient AI infrastructure, having recently closed a A$330 million equity placement with significant investment from Ellerston Capital and NVIDIA. This funding will accelerate the development of Project Southgate, which aims to establish Australia’s first sovereign, renewable-powered AI factory campus in the newly designated Green AI Factory Zone in northern Tasmania. The facility will feature 36,000 NVIDIA GPUs, optimized for compute density, energy efficiency, and flexibility in AI workloads. Co-CEOs Tim Rosenfield and Oliver Curtis emphasize the importance of efficiency in cost, energy, water, and space, aiming to empower Australians in shaping the future of AI in the country. Project Southgate represents the largest deployment of Firmus' AI Factory platform, which has already been successfully implemented in Singapore to support AI cloud services for various sectors. This initiative not only aims to enhance Australia’s capabilities in the global AI economy but also to create local jobs and repurpose existing industrial infrastructure sustainably.
